Andrea Sironi, Presidente di Generali, in occasione del 7° Forum Mondiale di OECD sul benessere "Building Well-being for People and Planet: the Role of Public-Private Partnerships" ha dichiarato:
"It's really a pleasure to welcome you all to this event, the opening of the OECD World Forum on Well-Being, which, as you mentioned, is hosted by Generali in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Generali is a leading insurance and asset management group, operating in more than 50 countries worldwide. As such, we are honored to be part of this event as the knowledge partner of the forum, and in some way, to represent the insurance and financial services sector here.
Let me, first of all, thank the OECD for agreeing to share this important moment with us, and my personal gratitude goes to its Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann, for being here with me today. I'd also like to thank Romina Morini, Director of the OECD Centre on Wellbeing, Inclusion, Sustainability, and Equal Opportunity, Pedro Fonseca, Director and author with the Human Development Report Office, and Lynn Forester Orchard, Founder and CEO of the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, for accepting our invitation to be with us today.
Finally, I'd like to thank the management team of Generali. We have Lucia Silva, Generali Group Chief Sustainability Officer, and Monica Possa from Generali Group and Organization Officer.
We live in an era of great uncertainty. Unprecedented changes such as climate change, demographic shifts, and technological innovation are just some of the major transformations affecting all of us. These shifts are accelerating in a context of, unfortunately, growing distrust in collective action, increasing political polarization, and rivalry between geopolitical blocs. We'll see what happens tomorrow, and in some way, we're all waiting for it.
These challenges are also unique opportunities to redefine and prioritize well-being in global governance. The climate crisis is clearly the most significant issue we must address. I am a humble sailor, and every summer, I see things getting worse and worse. These are threats to human health and well-being, and investing in sustainable technology, scientific research, green infrastructure, and renewable energy are all long-term investments that add significant value for all of us. This requires a long-term approach.
A long-term approach is very much aligned with the DNA of the insurance sector. As you know, the insurance industry is inherently focused on long-term investments. Insurance companies are accustomed to assessing risk and balancing assets and liabilities with a long-term perspective, which is consistent with our approach.
In addition to investing in mitigation, we must also promote resilience to these extreme events, helping communities adapt, raise awareness, and prepare for them. This includes building resilient infrastructure, enhancing disaster preparedness, and supporting vulnerable populations.
It is in this spirit that Generali has decided to leverage its position as a leading insurance and asset management player in over 50 countries to promote public-private partnerships with these kinds of objectives. In 2022, we signed a major partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to reshape the insurance landscape, with the aim of addressing the protection gap. This is done through the so-called Three I's: Investment, Insurance, and Innovation.
By leveraging our expertise and UNDP’s focus on financing and development, the joint work of the two institutions will enable us to reduce the protection gap and raise awareness. More recently, we signed another important agreement with the Insurance Development Forum, a public-private partnership led by the insurance industry and supported by international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank. The goal is to facilitate and support the growth of insurance-related resources and capabilities to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals."
