József Váradi (CEO Wizz Air) : "New aircraft A321XLR based in Milano Malpensa airport to fly to Abu Dhabi, first time in the history of the company"

József Váradi, CEO di Wizz Air, in occasione della conferenza stampa a Milano per la presentazione della nuova rotta Milano - Abu Dhabi ha dichiarato a Il Giornale d'Italia :

"We are very excited. First of all, Malpensa is our very first Italian operating base. We opened it in 2020, in the middle of the Covid times. And this base has done very well. We have moved passenger traffic in a significant way, more than five times here in Milan versus what we did in pre-COVID times. It has been a very successful investment of Wizz Air. We think that we have a brand people like to travel with, and we are always looking for the next best opportunity. Now having the extra long range aircraft delivered to visitors next year for the A321XLR. This is the first time in the history of the company that we made an announcement on this new aircraft. Aircraft will be based here in Milan Malpensa airport to fly to Abu Dhabi every day. We are very excited. I think our customers are very excited too, because they wanted this to happen. And here we go. We are delivering it"

What about the challeng of affordability? 

"This is an aircraft that changes the economic paradigm of flying on a road of seven, seven plus hours. This is a long road between Malpensa and Abu Dhabi. We believe that we can bring the fares down very significantly. We have surveyed the market based on current affairs, and we believe that this aircraft will lower the fare environment by around 70% so people will be able to afford it. I think people will go for this as we have experienced in other cases. This is a big deal because now people can fly longer routes very affordably. It's not only the very short routes that are now available for low fares, but also longer routes will become available at low fares"
