In a shocking incident highlighting the extreme hardships faced by civilians in the Gaza Strip, a child under the age of two was reportedly used as a tool of coercion during a military interrogation conducted by Israeli forces. The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about violations against children.
The ordeal began during an ordinary moment when young father Osama Abu Nasar went out with his toddler, Jawad, to purchase daily necessities. The simple outing quickly turned into a tragic scene. Near the Maghazi area in central Gaza, where Abu Nasar resides close to the eastern border, heavy gunfire erupted from Israeli forces, placing the father and child in immediate danger.
According to eyewitness accounts from local residents, a drone, identified as a “Quadcopter,” intervened and forced the father to leave his child behind and approach a nearby military checkpoint. There, he was stripped and subjected to harsh interrogation procedures.
What followed was even more disturbing. Multiple consistent testimonies indicate that the child was detained simultaneously with the father and used as leverage to extract confessions. Reports state that the toddler was tortured in front of his father in a deliberate act of intimidation.
In a harrowing statement, the child’s mother described how soldiers allegedly inflicted brutal abuse on her son, including burning his body with cigarettes, stabbing him with sharp instruments, and driving an iron nail into his leg. These injuries were later confirmed by a medical report.
After approximately ten hours in detention, the child was released through the International Committee of the Red Cross and reunited with his family at the Maghazi market, while his father remains in custody.
The incident has sent shockwaves across social media, where activists highlighted it as part of a recurring pattern of violations against civilians—especially children—amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Many have described the case as a “crime that shakes the human conscience,” emphasizing that using an infant as a tool of coercion during interrogation transcends mere abuse and constitutes a war crime in full.
Activists have also raised painful questions about what wrongdoing could justify subjecting a child to such cruelty, underscoring the unprecedented nature of these violations and the grave dangers faced by civilians in the region.
Human rights advocates are calling for an urgent international investigation and accountability for those responsible, warning that continued global silence may embolden such acts and exacerbate the suffering of vulnerable populations.
This incident occurs within a broader context of documented abuses during the conflict, which show that civilians—including children—are frequently subjected to harsh treatment that violates international humanitarian law, raising serious concerns about the future of their protection under international frameworks.
