Benning (Consolato Generale USA): "Non importa chi occuperà la Casa Bianca, non sarà un cambiamento quello che vedremo"

Douglass Benning, Console Generale USA a Milano, in occasione dell'evento AmCham Election Night ha dichiarato:

What the next president has to do to turn the gap between people in spite of what they're voting for?

"What I would say to that is I can't speculate about the outcome of the election, of course, but the role of the president is always to bring the American people together, and that is the role that has been played in the past and will be played in the future."

What can change through a choice or another?

"Honestly, I don't think there will be any real change in the United States following these elections, the ties between the United States and Italy and countries who are our friends will never get to change, because they're not based on the outcome of one single election, they're based on historical, cultural, economic and commercial ties that go back many many years, sometimes many, many decades, and no matter who is occupying the White House, it's not going to be a change that we're going to see."

Cosa dovrebbe fare il Presidente degli USA per colmare il divario tra le persone a prescindere dal loro voto?

"Quello che vorrei dire è che non posso speculare sull'esito delle elezioni, naturalmente, ma il ruolo del Presidente è sempre quello di riunire il popolo americano, e questo è il ruolo che è stato svolto in passato e sarà svolto in futuro."

Cosa può cambiare tra una scelta e l'altra?

"Onestamente, non credo che ci sarà un vero cambiamento negli Stati Uniti dopo queste elezioni, i legami tra gli Stati Uniti e l'Italia e i Paesi che sono nostri amici non cambieranno mai, perché non si basano sull'esito di una singola elezione, ma su legami storici, culturali, economici e commerciali che risalgono a molti, molti anni, a volte decenni, e non importa chi occuperà la Casa Bianca, non sarà un cambiamento quello che vedremo."
