Philipp Plein to GdI: "Presented at Milano Design Week 7-carat watches priced at €55,000; business in over 4,000 retail locations across 60 countries"

Philipp Plein, interviewed byIl Giornale d’Italia during Milan Design Week:

"We’re here at Milan Design Week, just back from Geneva, where we took part in “Watches and Wonders.” Here you can see our brand-new King Phantom, our latest creation in the Philipp Plein watch division. It actually features a sapphire crystal with a transparent case. As you can see, there’s a customized movement with a “ladder run” and an automatic movement inside this very bold timepiece. These watches represent the new launch.

And here, if you follow me, you’ll see the Diamond Queen. These are natural diamonds—6.8 carats, nearly 7 carats of natural diamonds. It’s very important—nowadays, everyone is using diamonds. Automatic movement, one-of-a-kind piece, very special.

And if you come with me, you can see our most exclusive piece: the Flying Tourbillon. What is the flying tourbillon? It’s very simple—it looks like the tourbillon is floating inside the case, as you can see. These are truly cutting-edge watches. A watch like this costs €55,000 and, with this type of movement and this level of quality, it has a unique price positioning. Even if it may seem expensive, it’s not a Ferrari—it’s a Bugatti.

Here, instead, we have a much more commercial approach, with watches ranging from €4,700 to €4,900. Still very unique, but as always, it’s all about quality, about the attention to detail in the watches, and we are very proud of this development. This is our third year in the Swiss Made watch sector, while we also have a strong business in fashion watches, with distribution in over 4,000 points of sale across 60 countries. Fashion watches range from €300 to €700.

How did your journey into the watch world begin?

We started with fashion watches about five years ago, and with Swiss Made watches three years ago. The next initiative, coming after the watches, is diamonds. We’re starting a jewelry collection with real diamonds, which is also very luxurious. We’re talking about prices going up to €70,000–€80,000, depending on the carats and the size of the diamond. So we’re completing the offer, with designs for both diamonds and watches. It’s truly exciting!
